Yard Sales - What the County Says

Individuals living in Fairfax County are not permitted to hold a yard/garage sale more than twice per year, and are limited to selling items not specifically purchased for resale.

No more than five free-standing signs may be posted to advertise a yard sale, and each sign should not be larger than three square feet in area and shall not exceed four feet in height. No two signs along a roadway may be posted closer than 500 yards away from each other. Signs cannot be posted on state-owned right-of-ways (which includes not only the street but also the sidewalk and grassy strip) or on street signs, utility poles or traffic control signs, lights or devices.

Please be considerate and ask permission to post signs on your neighbor’s property.
